The Season’s Last Pesto

The VegHeadz

The VegHeadz gathered around the Sharing Table to learn about Pesto this week.  Jeanne harvested the last of the Basil in her garden area. Janis shared her recipe and methods for making Pesto and others chimed in with great alternatives and ways to use it.

And what a turnout on a beautiful fall morning.  We’re all eager to enjoy any hint of the new season.  When not sharing, we’re working.   We are happy to share with you some of the evidence.

And finally a little garden humor.  When someone mentioned the fungi in the garden, some of us thought they were talking about Peter who happened to be nearby, and who is indeed a fun guy.

Things we learned on Wednesday

Laurie gives us a WOW
“Words of Wisdom”
Join us on Saturday, October 9 to learn how to make small pots for starting seeds from toilet paper rolls.  Sow a seed and take the pot home to watch it grow.

As a pleasant diversion from our weeding, planting and organizing in preparation for the fall growing season at the VegHeadz Garden on Wednesday Laurie taught us how to make the little pots and Kwan invented an alternative method as we watched.  Pretty amazing.

We also planted cover crops and built bamboo barriers to hold back some of a our sprawling perennials, and we discovered Spotted Horsemint in the natural area adjacent to our garden.

Despite the rampant heat and humidity, it was a good day.
