Resources for Growing Fruit in your Yard

Orlando Tangelo
Thinking about growing fruit in your yard? Or you already have some but you have questions about how to care for it?  There are many fruits which are easy to grow in the home landscape. Fall is a good time to select them and get them planted as soon as the weather cools. The UF document, Dooryard Fruit Varieties, provides an extensive list of fruit appropriate for the home garden as well as recommended varieties for our area.

The first step is to select the right tree or plant at the nursery.  Be prepared with some pointers about tree selection.

If you’re thinking about growing citrus, resources available include guidance on growing citrus, pruning citrus, and pests and diseases in citrus.

With a little planning it is possible to have fresh fruit from your yard available almost year around.  And what a pleasure it is to see, smell, and taste as each variety ripens in its season.
