Winter Harvest

Willing workers in the garden
The seeds planted in the VegHeadz garden last fall have matured to provide a bountiful harvest of salad and pot greens, as well as root crops such as radishes, green onions, and carrots.  Rutabagas and some others are still growing, and we continue to get peppers and beans from our summer crops plus herbs and other perennials.   It's time to pass this abundance on to feed those less fortunate and to prepare for our spring crops.  Cover crops are being cut and mulched, and green peas and potatoes will soon be in the ground.

Seed starting workshop

It's time to start seedlings indoors for many of the crops.  At our last work day, Peggy, Glenn, and Cathi shared their methods and equipment for starting seeds.  Even those of us who have grown our own seedlings before learned a lot from them.

The weather has been beautiful, we have new VegHeadz sharing labor and information, and all of us have loved spending time in the garden.

Greens, greens, greens, and some other stuff too.

Cathi shows off our broccoli--that's
one head!
