ABOUT US

The VegHeadz Blog is hosted by Master Gardeners who volunteer at the Demonstration Vegetable Garden at the UF/IFAS Leon County Extension in Tallahassee, Florida. Our goal is to provide vegetable gardening information and regenerative growing techniques appropriate to the north Florida area (growing zone 9A) and to pass along things we learn while gardening at the VegHeadz demonstration vegetable garden and edible forest garden located at the Extension Office on Paul Russell Road. About the VegHeadz Garden

The demonstration garden at the UF/IFAS Leon County Extension was established to provide a hands-on educational experience for Master Gardeners and the general public. The Demo Garden encompasses seven horticultural beds in different environments, a water garden, a fruit orchard, and vegetable gardens. The gardens are open during daylight hours 365 days a year. A guided tour can be arranged by contacting the Extension office. In addition, a Saturday open house and plant sale is held in spring with Extension Agents and Master Gardeners on hand to answer questions. The VegHeadz demonstration vegetable garden is grown with organic methods, and includes raised beds, square foot gardens, container gardens, herb gardens, pollinator gardens, an heritage garden, a Hugelkultur garden, a grape arbor, a rain garden, and an edible forest garden. Techniques including crop rotation, composting, no-till gardening, and cover crops are featured. Produce from the garden is donated to the local homeless shelter and other charitable organizations,
