Carole’s Corner from Garden Coordinator Carole Hayes

Laurie Jones surveys her current
crop of pollinator plants
Greetings!  Hot, muggy, and lush in the garden today. Lots of weeding and trimming accomplished.  Due to excessive coffee, sun, and humidity along with inadequate breakfast, I left early feeling dizzy and nauseated. Don't follow my example; and, wear a hat in the garden on these hot days!!

Mike Dugger finished erecting the frame of the trellis at the bottom of the Edible Forest Garden. Peggy McDonald finished the cross pieces on this amazing engineering and aesthetic design of hers. Well designed and well done!! One lucky chayote will drape itself over this beautiful trellis!

Many veggies for those less fortunate

An abundant harvest
from Louie Doll’s
herb beds
Laurie Jones delivered okra, tomatoes, and eggplant to the Kearney Center on Monday. Today, Louie Doll cut and bundled many herbs and Cathy Alfano picked lots of beans and delivered our harvest to the Kearney Center. Thank you, Louie, Laurie and Cathy!!

We are a host on October 9
for the Farm Tour, so we will be planning and planting things that we can offer and show. For instance, Glenn Berman is our nut sedge expert. He has patiently groomed the square foot raised beds to clear as much nut grass as possible. He will not plant anything prior to December; however, he can tell us LOTS about nut grass!! Sure to be a high point of the tour.
